PF+A Welcomes Charlie Hodder

PF+A are proud to announce Charlie Hodder as the newest member of our creative family in our Guernsey studio. Having worked in London for many years, he has a wealth of experience to bring to the company.

Charlie was born in Guernsey and worked briefly for Speakman Sayers Architects before moving to the UK, but he has always maintained his connection with the Island and has returned with his wife to raise their two boys in Guernsey.

Charlie studied architecture at Portsmouth University becoming a chartered architect in 1999. Whilst completing his studies he worked in Guernsey, Los Angeles and San Francisco before moving to London, where he worked for sixteen years. There he built his knowledge and skills as a designer, going on to become part of the senior management team at HTA Design LLP, a leading architectural practice specialising in housing design.

Whilst at HTA, Charlie helped to secure several significant regeneration schemes and delivered a wide range of projects in London and across the UK of varying sizes from individual houses to large strategic masterplans. Notable projects include a mixed-use scheme for new library; retail and residential arranged around a new public square in South London; a hotel and residential development which formed part of the Wembley Masterplan in North London; and two carbon zero demonstration houses for the Danish company Velux, which were monitored as part of an ongoing research and development programme to test the positive effects of improved daylight levels in the home. Charlie has worked with Westminster City Council, Velux Group, Notting Hill Housing Association and numerous other developers and user groups.

PF+A’s CEO John Hibbs commented: "As PF+A continues to go from strength to strength, we're thrilled Charlie's decided to join our family. He’s a truly fantastic architect and his enthusiasm for design is instantly infectious. His thoughtful, kind and caring nature is a perfect fit for an organisation which believes in enhancing people’s lives. "

With a strong desire to pursue architectural excellence, Charlie has a wealth of experience of delivering successful projects and has a real passion for housing design. He has knowledge of the multitude of standards required for designing housing today as well as a good understanding of the townscape and urban design principles required to justify Planning proposals on complex sites.

Charlie has great communication skills, design flair and an understanding of sustainable principles, as well as being able to draw convincingly by hand. He has already taken part fully in the life of the office by starting the ‘PF+A Sketch Club’, which seeks to improve our drawing skills and engage with the public whilst learning more about our town. In his spare time when he is not renovating his new house Charlie keeps bees and enjoys messing about in boats.
