Being able to see into the future is a valuable gift, but unless you're a savant it's rather tricky.
At PF+A we break the rules of time travel and manage to glimpse the future by embracing the works experience system.
We take on as many students as possible throughout the year and have a tried and tested process to give them the best experience we can.
"This gives them an invaluable experience into architecture and allows them the confidence to choose whether this line of work is for them. However, we're not doing it for purely altruistic reasons. It allows us to see the bright young things of tomorrow. If there are students that coruscate we can start building a relationship and support them throughout their future studies." says PF+A Director John Hibbs.
An emerging star of tomorrow Tia Elliott was kind enough to write to us following her recent week working with PF+A:
I really enjoyed my time at PF+A because they made me feel so welcome and comfortable from the moment I arrived. Everyone helped me when I needed it and didn’t make me feel stupid when I asked questions.
I was set tasks to complete and given praise throughout, and when I had finished I got even more praise which really boosted my confidence.
I was taken on a site visit which allowed me to experience a more in-depth view of what they do which I felt was better and more interesting for me than just being told. I was shown how architects design their plans for clients, and was allowed to do the same.
I was trusted with their equipment and software and caught on very quickly after being shown and taught. Within a couple of days, I was able to create and design an extension / remodel of my own house.
Overall, my week at PF+A really encouraged me to pursue this career in the future. I cannot thank everyone there enough, but especially thanks to John who taught me the basics and helped me out.
I loved it, thank you.
