After being an integral member of PF+A for the last few years as a Part II Architectural Assistant, we are delighted to speak to Martyn about his passion for life and architecture. Bringing his witty repartee to the table, we hear all about why he absolutely loves Mondays and how technology is shaping his perception of architecture…
Why do you love being a part of PF+A?
“I love most the fact that I always look forward to my job. I hear a lot of people who don't enjoy their work and have a 'case of the Mondays', I love Mondays! Doing what I enjoy every day and doing it with a whole team that I would call my friends is what makes me grateful to be here.”
What ignited your passion to make a difference in the world and enhance people’s lives?
“I have always been fascinated with mathematics, art and people. I chose to be an architect at 11 years old after an online survey told me it would suit me. I did work experience at 16 and have never looked back since. I love enhancing people's lives and making them happier, it is what drives me.”
What personal attribute are you most proud of?
“I am always eager to try new things. I believe the world moves at much a rapid place at present that it is exciting to try and keep up with it all. Technology is opening a lot of doors in architecture too (pun intended) and it is enthralling to be involved in every aspect.”
Before starting at PF+A, what was your background and experience?
“I did my Part I at De Montfort University in Leicester and my Part II at The Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales. I loved both courses but the latter really gave me the comradery that I expected to find when a group of designers come together for a common goal, supporting and enhancing each other. I carried this forward and wanted the same thing within my employment. I did not find it straight away but knew that I had found what I was looking for when I started working for PF+A in 2014.”
What makes you get out of bed every day?
“It used to be my alarm clock but at present it is my dog, he is always up early and wants a walk before I leave for work. In the near future I have no doubt it will be my baby, we are expecting a little one soon and my life will never be the same again, or so I have been told.”
